About Us

Hi, I’m Nora.

I live in Madison, Wisconsin, with a quiet rescue cat who has strong opinions about where I sit when I’m writing. By day I work remotely as an operations coordinator for a regional nonprofit. By evening and on weekends, I play farm and life sim games the same way I approach most things—slowly, methodically, and with a notebook nearby.

I’m 31. I’ve been drawn to games that reward rhythm, planning, and small daily routines for a long time. Stardew Valley, Coral Island, Sun Haven, The Sims 4, and others like them feel less like escapes to me and more like gentle practice in turning messy systems into something manageable. I restart saves more often than most people would consider reasonable, usually just to test a cleaner first year or a calmer midgame path.

Why this site exists

Most of the information for these games already exists somewhere—wikis, forums, long video guides, scattered Reddit threads. What’s harder to find is a steady, human voice that sits beside you and says: here’s what actually matters first, here’s what can wait, and you’re not behind.

Hearthside Harvest is my attempt to offer that voice. The guides here are written for players who want fewer early mistakes, clearer priorities, and a smoother route from the first chaotic days into a comfortable midgame—without the pressure of perfect optimization or the cold feeling of a database.

I write the way I try to help people in real life: calmly, clearly, and without making anyone feel like they should already know more than they do.

How I approach the games (and these guides)

  • I favor practical order over exhaustive completeness when a reader needs to act.

  • I assume most of us are balancing the game with real life, limited energy, and the desire to still have fun.

  • I believe a smaller, well-tended farm or household almost always feels better than a large stressed one.

  • I will never shame anyone for an “inefficient” choice. There are many good ways to play.

You’ll see the same quiet refrain throughout the site:

You don’t need the perfect start—just a smoother one.

A little more about me outside the screen

I keep a handwritten notebook of seasonal plans, route ideas, and “what if I tried it this way” experiments. I drink too much tea. I lose track of time in secondhand bookstores. Sunday evenings are for resetting—laundry, a simple meal, and sometimes starting a fresh save just to feel the early-game clarity again.

The cat’s name is Mabel. She does not care about optimal crop layouts, but she is very consistent about sitting on the warm laptop.

What you can expect here

Clear, step-by-step guidance for the early and mid stretches of the games I know best. Practical checklists. Recovery advice for when a season or a household starts to feel overwhelming. And a steady tone that treats you like a capable player who sometimes just wants a calmer path forward.

If you’re looking for the absolute fastest money route or a fully optimized endgame blueprint, this may not be the loudest voice in the room. If you want someone to walk with you through the first week, the first season, or the moment you realize you’re a little behind and need a gentle way to catch up—I’m glad you’re here.

Thanks for reading.

I’m happy to keep playing alongside you.
